Swing seat

I recently finished making a swing seat for a customer's wife's birthday.  The aim was to make one which could be left outside permanently so I used English oak which is naturally rot resistant and all the hardware used was stainless steel.

For a more detailed description please click here to see a PDF file .  Here are a few photos as it was being made:

I am interested in making more of these so please feel free to contact me to with any design ideas or personalised carving you have in mind and I will be happy to provide a quotation.

Oak beam bed

The next two beds needed to be low to the ground to fit in to a teepee.  I used locally grown oak.  The 6 inch beams were only half dried and weighed a ton.  Cracks and splits will increase over time adding even more character to this minimalist design.  Here are a few photos of the first one being made:

Chopping out the lap joint

The head rests were epoxied in place with threaded steel rod surrounded by chrome steel tubing.

Four poster bed

Here are the planks for the next bed.  Spalted ash with the waney edge left on.

The customer has this symbol all over his campsite so I thought I'd carve it on the headboard and gild it.

Two more beds still to be made.....

First four poster bed

A local campsite owner asked me to make some unusual double beds for his "pods", [geodesic domes for his glamping visitors].  Here's the first one with English ash boards on a pine frame.  In use, it will have a big piece of white fabric draped over the top and sides.

He's now asked me to make a similar one but with even more characterful head and foot boards.  I'll start searching the local wood yards...
